The long version
Every voice feature we ship used to be metered by somebody else. Per-character text to speech, per-minute transcription, per-conversation agent fees. At scale that is not a line item, it is a business model built on top of ours.
Speedish Voice is the replacement: a self-hosted speech stack running on our own GPU. It streams the natural voice that answers the phone for ShopBase shops, and it narrates lessons for Cullinan Academy students.
Owning the layer means the marginal cost of a conversation is electricity, and the roadmap is ours instead of a vendor's.
